Lawrence Taylor, Retired Foreign Service Officer and former U.S. Ambassador to Estonia

America First? or America Only?  Drawing on his many years of experience as a career diplomat, Lawrence Taylor will share his insights on the first 120 days, including:

Lawrence Taylor is a retired Foreign Service Officer and a former U.S. Ambassador to Estonia, a post he held from 1995 to 1997.  He has extensive experience in foreign affairs leadership, training and management, and policy development as a career diplomat with the U.S. Department of State - both overseas and in the U.S.

Prior to serving as Ambassador, Taylor was Director of the Foreign Service Institute, National Foreign Affairs Training Center in Arlington Virginia. He joined the Foreign Service in 1969. His overseas postings as a political and economic officer include Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic; Zagreb and Belgrade, Yugoslavia; Jakarta, Indonesia; Ottawa, Canada; and London, United Kingdom.

After retiring to Gettysburg, PA, Taylor served as Senior Advisor to two presidents of Gettysburg College, and he is a founding partner of The Gettysburg Leadership Experience at Gettysburg College, a unique leadership development program for senior executives in the private and public sectors. In 2007, he was appointed by Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell as a member of the PA Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission.

Taylor has served on the boards of The Eisenhower Institute, The Baltic-American Partnership Fund, The National Trust for Historic Gettysburg, and was president of The Lincoln Fellowship of Pennsylvania.

Taylor graduated from Ohio University and has done graduate work at Kent State University, American University and Harvard University. He is a 1985 graduate of the National War College, at Fort Lesley J. McNair, which published his paper on U.S. foreign policy and international terrorism.

During his career in the Foreign Service, Taylor received the Department of State’s Distinguished Honor Award for his leadership at the National Foreign Affairs Training Center.
